Swakopmund has a strange, wonderful identity: a slice of Bavarian seaside town dropped onto the edge of the Namib, with the Atlantic fog rolling in most mornings. It punches well above its weight for food, especially seafood, and it's usually where our guests get their first proper sit-down meal after a few days in the desert. Here's where we send people.
Right on the water at the old jetty, and it's the classic choice for a reason. Fresh linefish, good oysters, and a sunset view over the Atlantic that's hard to beat. It's a little more formal and a little pricier than most of the town, so we'd save it for a celebratory dinner rather than a quick lunch.

Tucked right at The Mole on Main Beach, The Lighthouse Restaurant is one of Swakopmund's best known spots for a reason. It's family owned, with a cozy, relaxed feel, sitting near the town's iconic lighthouse landmark. The setting is a real draw, with sea views and a mix of indoor and outdoor seating that make it just as good for a lazy lunch as an evening meal.
A relaxed daytime spot built around good bread, cheese, cold cuts and simple, well-made lunches. It's less about seafood and more about the kind of deli plate you'll be glad of after a few days of lodge dinners. A reliable stop between activities or before hitting the road.
Our take:
If you only have one dinner in Swakopmund, make it The Tug and try to time it for sunset. For something a little quieter and more wine-focused, Ocean Cellar is the better fit. And The Farmhouse Deli is worth building into your day for lunch, especially if you're heading out early the next morning.
