ITINERARY OVERVIEW
Day 1: Kilimanjaro Airport to Hotel
Welcome to Tanzania!
On arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, you'll be met by our friendly team and transferred to your hotel, where you can relax and settle in after your journey.
In the evening, we'll hold a trek briefing where you'll meet your fellow climbers, go over the route, ask any questions, and complete a full kit check to ensure you're fully prepared for the adventure ahead.
Accommodation: Hotel
Dinner, Bed and Breakfast
Day 2: Machame Gate to Machame Camp
The drive from Moshi to Machame Gate takes around 45 minutes, passing through the picturesque village of Machame. From the park gate, you will embark on our journey through the rainforest, following a winding trail that ascends along a ridge.
The forest gradually gives way, and after a rewarding trek, you will arrive at Machame Camp, where you will spend the night.
Day 3: Machame Camp to Shira Camp
After breakfast, you'll leave the rainforest behind and begin your climb along a steadily ascending path. The trail takes you across a valley and up a steep, rocky ridge, rewarding you with expansive views of the landscape below.
As you progress, the path curves westward, leading you alongside a striking river gorge. By late afternoon, you'll arrive at the Shira campsite, where you'll settle in for the evening.
Day 4: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp 4,360m via Lava Tower
From the Shira Plateau, you'll continue eastward, ascending a ridge that takes you past a junction leading towards the peak of Kibo. As you move on, the route veers to the southeast towards the impressive Lava Tower, known as the "Shark's Tooth," at an elevation of 4,650 metres (15,250 feet). Shortly after the tower, you'll reach a second junction that leads to the Arrow Glacier.
From here, you'll descend into the Barranco Valley, making your way to Barranco Camp. Although you'll end the day at nearly the same elevation as you started, this day is essential for acclimatisation.
Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Today, you leave Barranco Camp and embark on a challenging ascent up the steep Barranco Wall. As you climb the ridge, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the rugged terrain below.
Once you reach the top, you will continue your journey by descending into the Karanga Valley, a beautiful spot nestled between the peaks. Your trek today concludes at the junction where your path intersects with the Mweka Trail, setting the stage for the next leg of your adventure.
Day 6: Karanga to Barafu Camp
Today, you'll continue your ascent to Barafu Camp. Along the way, you'll complete the South Circuit, which provides stunning views of the summit from various angles. Upon reaching Barafu, you'll set up camp, allowing time to rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the final push to the summit tomorrow.
Day 7: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak, then descent to Mweka Camp
In the early hours, between midnight and 2 a.m., you will set off for the summit, climbing through scree between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. You will head northwest towards Stella Point on the crater rim, where you'll enjoy a stunning sunrise.
Congratulations! You have made it to Uhuru Peak: the roof of Africa and the highest free standing mountain in the world!
Afterward, you will descend to Mweka Camp, stopping at Barafu for lunch. You'll unwind and enjoy your last night on the mountain at Mweka Camp.
Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
After breakfast, you will make your way down to the Mweka Park Gate to collect your summit certificates. You'll then transfer back to Moshi, a 60-minute drive, and return to your hotel for your final night. To mark your achievement, you'll enjoy a farewell dinner together.
Day 9: Farewell!
After a good night's sleep and well-deserved rest, it's time to head home... until next time!
